If you have experienced domestic violence, please use these resources to get yourself into a safe situation.
These organizations are trained to assist victims of domestic violence and will ensure your confidentiality and provide a warm environment. There are also counseling and legal services available to help you regain control of your life.
If you are in immediate danger, call 911 and try to reach one of the emergency shelters. Remember that domestic violence is a crime and there is legal action you can take to ensure your safety.
Know Your Rights
- Domestic Violence is a CRIME. It is against the law in all states.
- You have the right to a restraining order against your abuser.
- You may have the right to sue your abuser for damages, whether they be monetary, physical, or emotional.
- You have a right to confidentiality. You can deny your information being put in a shared database or public profile (ex. HMIS)
- You have the right to be informed of proceedings and events in the criminal justice process, including the release or escape of the offender, legal rights and remedies, available benefits and services, access to records, referrals and other information.
- In California, you have the right to take time off from work relating to such issues and the right to reasonable accommodations upon request from the employee
- A domestic-violence (DV) waiver means you can be excused from a CalWORKs program rule if your family would be placed at risk, unfairly penalized, or more likely to stay or go back to your abuser.

YWCA-MC has a Domestic Violence Response Team Advocate on-site and ready to respond to any calls regarding Domestic Violence response in Monterey County. The Domestic Violence Response team advocate can be reached by calling 831-646-3444.
Domestic Violence Response Team Program Advocate – DVRT provides:
- Counseling
- Advocacy
- Lethality/risk assessments
- Safety planning
- Restraining order assistance
- Referral systems as needed to victims of Domestic Violence and their children
- The advocate is available after-hours for any emergency call-out situation.
